Her father regretted coming to America with his dark-skinned wife and son. He sent the girl to the party, and then set the fire in their home.
Many people did feel badly for her... they didn't think she was a witch at all. But they were too afraid to say anything...
And her husband, even after he remarried and had children -- he regretted not helping her.
