Dreamland (round 3)
[A strange house of some sort sits in the pitch black nothingness that exists around it. For those just now wandering in, they will be drawn to the building, finding it lit up in a way that it should not be. It's as if the whole area- house, yard, fence, and giant sakura tree- all give off their own light, and the newly-arrived are drawn to it like a moth to the flame.
Inside the boundary of the yard, the familiar faces of those who have passed on already will greet them. Depending on who is asked, they might give an accurate explanation. But even if they don't, one thing is clear: you don't want to leave this place. The area outside feels Dangerous, and it is probably best to stay put.
Fortunately, the house is built in an old style, and there are many rooms to explore. One room on the second floor seems locked, but the rest are open to explore as desired. The standard rooms are easy to find: kitchen, a W.C. and a bathroom, a sitting room of some sort, and a couple bedrooms (with plenty of futons for the dead to use). There are also several tatami mat rooms with nothing in them currently, but it seems like there might be some use for those rooms.
Around the house, perches for birds can be found. No birds are on them currently, though.
Sometimes Watanuki can be found in the house, but most of the time the dead will be left to their own devices. The question is, what will they do here?]

It's like something must be given up for the other to be kept safe. ]

[Kurama sighs and picks up the album. Just on the off chance, he's going to go tap the album against the seal on the gate.]
I have no moral high ground, admittedly. I've been willing to risk my friends many times for my mother. But still... there's a difference between risking living for living and risking living to cling to a memory.
Kimihiro! We need to talk. I know you can hear me.
no subject
It's time Kimihiro put that part of his past behind him.

Watanuki can be found in the sitting room, trying to smother the flames on some of the pictures. ]
Come on, why are you doing this?!
[Kurama will be able to see the same version of Watanuki from before too, trying to reach for Watanuki from his place in a picture, but ultimately being unable to. ]
no subject
[Kurama sets the album down in front of Watanuki and gently picks up the picture with the other Watanuki, smiling down at him sadly.]
Your wish... Isn't that the real price? Giving up every other bond to cling to a memory. Is that what Yuuko would have wanted for you?
no subject
That's ridiculous! I don't have to make a choice. She's going to come back eventually, I just have to wait for her.
The only price for that is my time.
[The photo-Watanuki shakes his head, though. And since Watanuki isn't looking up to it, photo-Watanuki will mouth another word at Kurama: 'Doumeki'. ]
no subject
Kurama hasn't heard much about that name, and he tilts his head slightly. But he'll trust photo-Watanuki, hoping he represents the part of Watanuki that wants to move on.]
Mm. What about Doumeki?
no subject
What do you mean? What about Doumeki?
[The picture in Watanuki's hand, which Kurama can see, might be more informational. It shows Watanuki sitting on a porch with another teenage boy sitting by him. Then the boy starts to age, becoming a man, and eventually going grey and wrinkly. Watanuki stays the same through all of it, though. And in the end, the old man is replaced by incense and cup of tea, one set up as an offering to the dead. ]

How much time with him did you let slip away while you waited for Yuuko? You kept waiting until he was gone, and long beyond that, it seems.
no subject
[That is a very direct and very effective question. He immediately freezes up, his very breath catching in his throat. Because Kurama is right, he waited and waited and lost his chance for a real life with anyone he had cared about. ]
It's not...I can't just forget her! She's going to come back!
[His voice is wavering though, much like his resolve. One more push should be enough to break through. ]
no subject
[Kurama moves a little closer, reaching out to rest a gentle hand over Watanuki's heart.]
Even if you forget, she'll still be here. But if you just keep waiting, you'll lose everyone else you care about all over again.
no subject
Yuuko is gone. She's gone, and even if her soul returns to the shop later, it will be as 'someone else'. ]
...it was always inevitable, wasn't it?
[And though he's crying now, it's as if a heavy weight has been removed from his very soul. With the shackles of the past no longer binding him, he might be able to finally move forward. ]

[Kurama moves his hand to rest on Watanuki's shoulder. His expression is understanding and concerned. He knows this is good, both for them and for Watanuki, but that doesn't make seeing Watanuki's pain easy.
If the noodle wants a hug, Kurama will give him one?]

You told me yourself, Kimihiro. Yuuko’s wish for you — live. Live for yourself, live for others, but don’t just linger like a spirit in a hallway, waiting.
