GRAVEYARD
[On the instant of your death, you're suddenly outside of your body - probably staring down at the remains it's become.
Yet, you're not alone. For all of you (except Szayel), a young man appears from behind you, his face set into a firm, yet sad, scowl. His shaggy strawberry blonde hair is pretty eye-catching, along with the black and white Shihakusho he wears and the large sword on his back, even as he gently tries to lead you back into the lobby and away from what was once your body. You can still clearly hear and see the living, if you want to try - but they can't see or hear you.
'Welcome to the world of the dead in this Resort,' he says, quietly. 'Looks like you're stuck here with the rest of us.'
He hands you a tablet, just like the one you had before. "You'll need this if you want to keep talking to them,' he explains, looking sad.
It looks like you've passed on, and yet...You still feel like you have a role to play in all of this.]

Got it!

For now.
Anyway, when they step into the control room, they will notice that it is dark. Not pitch black, they can still see to move around, but the only light sources seem to be in emergency strip lighting along the ceiling and floor boards, as well as the light given off from several computer screens. Not the best quality lighting for seeing in an otherwise-dark room. But from what they can see, they can tell that this is indeed a control room of some sort. The room is full of levers and buttons, with several computer monitors up and running as well. All of the screens are showing static right now, though.
And then, over against one of the walls, is a vaguely human-shaped ball of shadows. It is sitting down with a tablet in its lap, and it appears to be poking at it intermittently to type a message here and there.
When the three of them enter the room, the shadowy man glances up at them. It's hard to see his face in the shadows, but the confusion present there is more obvious when he speaks up.]
Why the hell are you three here?
[His voice is pretty deep, and it's started to go...gravely. Almost like it's being growled out rather than spoken, except the man is speaking normally. Hm.]

[Szayel looks at Rean and Ellie and despite his cheerful greeting for the man, he gives them both a serious look -- don't get too close. He waves at them to go explore the rest of the command center]
We've been cleaning up the inflammation on the brain -- clearing the way for the still living. I specifically came to put a bandaid on your little ah... problem. Will you allow me to take a look, Gabriel?
no subject
Alright, let's see what we can do. If you have any other places you want to check out though, feel free. I don't think we have to worry about this room shifting on us if he's been stuck here this whole time.
[He'll move closer to one of the control panels though, just examining the levers and such more closely. Any labels or whatever? Any of them noticeably broken or anything?]

There seems to be no inflammation in the control center room!
At Szayel's request, Gabe frowned.]
He did say something about you knowing about this. If you fuck it up and make it worse, I'm blaming you.
[But hey, he's cooperating? And he sets the tablet aside and works at pulling off his hoodie and t-shirt. Shirtless muscular man covered in wispy black smoke ayyyy!
But yes, there is the start of a hollow hole on his chest. It's about halfway open currently.]
tw; bugs/parasitism
[
Mmmmm MUSCLES! He doesn't have time to gawk, unfortunately.Szayel frowns thoughtfully, crouching to examine the Hollow hole]
Mmm, good. It's not as far along as I suspected. I can't stabilize you completely here, but I can slow the Hollowfication process.
[once again, he unzips his little garganta pocket dimension, and withdraws a large glass vial. Inside is what looks like a big earwig with an exoskeleton made of bone. It, too, has a tiny hole through its thorax, and its face has a skull-like look to it. It clicks the pincers on its abdomen and twitches antennae]
I've modified this small, parasitic Hollow to feed only on Hollow reiatsu. It should keep your nascent Hollow powers from growing too powerful and overtaking you. I'll remove it once we're back at the Foundation. Applying it may pinch a bit, but it isn't painful. Are you ready?

So, stepping back and just looking around the area, are there general signs of living? Like trash bins filled with garbage, food packaging, other waste that we shall not specify, etc.?]

The monitors have labels on them too! Written by Gabe, but still. There's one labeled 'the Lady', and then the rest are labeled with 'staff' and random strings of numbers. It probably makes sense to Gabe.
Gabe will take one look at that bug, and nope. Nooooope. He is not doing that shit at all. He's even getting to his feet and looks extremely nope about all of this.]
Put that shit away, Granz. It's not going anywhere near me.
no subject
Oh, don't be such a baby. It's just a bug. Do you want to make it out of here alive? Or do you just want to degenerate into a mindless, voracious eating machine that Kurosaki will have to exorcise? [he glares at Gabe with real malice] The boy has been through so much. Don't force him to do something like that, too.
no subject
Just in case, he'll open the control room door slightly and peek out of it. Is there a safe way out?]

...Then she recalls being told that the key to winning this guy over was guilt-tripping, so...]
...Um... We're all worried about you and want to make sure you can get out of this alive too, and this looks like our best chance of keeping you safe until then, so...
It's... just for a little while longer after all.

Ellie's additional guilt-tripping does make him pause, but one more look at that bug builds up his resolve.]
Why did you have to make it look like a goddamn bug in the first place? Can't you be a NORMAL doctor and, I don't know, make it a shot or a pill or something?
tw: parasite bugtime!!
Do I look like a normal doctor to you, Gabriel? I have my aesthetics. Besides, engineering organisms offers so much more flexibility. [he admires his little bug Hollow for a moment before approaching Gabe] Now please hold still.
[he places the insect on Gabe's chest. It scuttles near the hole in his chest and clamps down with its pincers, then buries its head in his skin like a tick. It hurts a lot less than it should. Even the feeding process is fairly painless.
But it's definitely something that Reaper might notice]

...y i k e s]
...If it's any consolation, I can sympathize. Really. [Not that he's expecting Gabe to really answer him but you know. He'll send him his thoughts.]
no subject
...It's... It's fine, it's just for a little while...
...Right...?

[He sounds more than a little alarmed as this giant hollow-bug latches on to his chest, and he has to hold his hands back purposefully to keep from instantly trying to rip it off his chest. He looks extremely freaked out, but he can behave for a little while at least.
And it does help! The smoke seems to dissipate, and Gabe's form seems to settle back into something more human-looking. The hole is still there in his chest, as much as it is visible around the bug, and that doesn't seem to be shrinking, but the other effects are going away. His left arm even turns back into a normal arm!
But as time passes, Gabe seems to get more and more anxious. He looks back and forth between Szayel and the bug a few times, and eventually he'll finally speak up.]
Okay, I'm back to normal, take this thing off now.
[He's trying to sound calm, but he's grossed out and freaked out and that's leaking into his voice a bit.]
no subject
Eh? It's not meant to come off until I have more permanent stabilization options available, and I need my lab for that. That bug is your new friend until we get back. If we take it off now, you'd be back in the same state you were just in in less than 48 hours. You should give him a name.
no subject
Would you be able to bear with it until we get out of here, at least? We're quickly running out of time, and if your condition's making it hard for you to get out of here, then I don't think we really have many options left to us.

[Sorry kids, he would like to put on a brave front and be the Cool Adult who can get shit done, but. It's bugs.
He hates bugs. He hates them so much.
And he's not the only one who hates them too, because suddenly those wisps of smoke are coming back, and that seems to make Gabe panic even more.]
Oh shit-
[He doesn't even finish his expletive as he suddenly bursts into shadows, the force of the blast expanding outwards towards the trio near Gabe. Be careful to stay on your feet!
And since Szayel would be able to tell the difference: this force doesn't feel entirely like a hollow. It's a mixture of 'hollow' and 'something else'. And since the bug is doing a good job of gobbling up the hollow energy, the 'something else' is more predominant right now.]

[The shadowy wisps catch him off guard, and he jumps back away from Gabe, bringing his wings forward defensively, including Rean and Ellie in his shield ]
Ugh!! MOIRA! What did you do?! Schwarzer! Troit! We’re pulling out!
no subject
Welp, looks like he won't get the chance to ask him any questions now!]
...Understood. The hallway looks clear from what I saw, so we should be able to make our exit.
[He'll back away without taking his eyes off the mass of shadow, but he won't leave the room until at least Ellie is out first.]
no subject
...Sorry. This is all we can do for now, I think.
[And through the door she goes.]
