[ flat, despite his foolishness, is not easy to deceive. he takes note of the key in the cushions, and looks up at nanashi with a smile that is not kind.
it's not false, either.
it's empty. ]
There's no need to drop your key there, you know? You might forget about it and then get locked out.
Their definition and mine are different, Yoshi. They'll all tell you 'you're special, you're special' without you accomplishing anything.
[ they reach the room for the ski apparel and flat chooses a coat and boots to wear. they're too big on him, but that's the point. to not get caught. ]
Your body will be sacrificed for the sake of the Savior.
[ he glances down to the puppy that continues to wag its tail happily. perhaps unassuming, or perhaps not. maybe, when it looks at yoshi, it knows what will happen. ]
See, if it had been just me, I would have let you live. I like you, and so does Flat. I would have chosen any of the other prey that exist here and taken it for myself. However...for my Savior, my Lord, I will only give them the absolute best.
[ flat walks up to the exit for the ski area and, from one of his sleeves, he produces a single knife. ]
Would you like to run? Sometimes when prey runs, it makes the hunt a little more exciting.
Yes. But you won't be able to draw him out, that's for sure.
[ he plays around with the knife, swinging it around as if it was just made of plastic. but from the way that it glints in the outside lights, that's obviously not the case. ]
Does that mean that you'd selfishly give up someone else to save yourself, Yoshi? That's more human than I expected of you. [ he laughs ] Nevertheless, I won't change my decision. Those eyes of yours...they're like jewels. They'll be beautiful presents for the Lord.
the high-pitched frequency starts ringing, and flat screams, dropping the knife to cover his ears. even the dog by his side begins to whine, barking loudly in response as flat even collapses into the snow.
perhaps, yoshi might even be able to leave safely. ]
and if yoshi knows the puppy's real identity, then he should have the first evidence that his attempt at escaping didn't turn out so well.
the second evidence is when flat begins to pick himself up, a low chuckle coming from him. perhaps, at this point, yoshi might not even be seeing flat anymore, but a monster. ]
Excellent. Truly amazing. Though not exactly the Outsider, you may just be the second best prey I'll be able to get in this resort!
[ and, with a physical ability that is definitely not possible for humans, he lunges at yoshi, ready to rip him open. ]
Yoshi isn't suited at physical tasks. He hasn't been for a long time, allowing himself to waste away in the apartment for four months, his diet consisting of delivery and junk food. He's skinny, but it's not a healthy sort, it's a weak one.
Which is why he has absolutely no chance of escaping the monster's grasp when he lunges, giving only a short yelp of surprise.]
[ flat--the barghest-- doesn't hesitate to bring the knife down on yoshi as soon as he's caught. he plunges the knife deep into his abdomen, dragging it sideways-- as if gutting a fish.
to yoshi, this might seem like he's getting attacked by the wolf itself. and yet, when he speaks, it's almost soothing. ]
Don't struggle, alright? I don't want to ruin those perfect eyes of yours when I take them out.
[Yoshi makes a strangled noise of pain as the cold, cold blade (fang?) enters his abdomen. And yet the pain itself sears and his vision seems to flicker white (but there's black there's dark there's so much dark fur it's--)
He raises his hands to the wolf's maw, reaching desperately, grasping for a throat, anything to try to make the pain stop, even if he has to erase Flat- no, the beast? The beast-
But there's only so much a rabbit can do, caught in the paws of a wolf.]
[ with his free hand, he pins both of yoshi's arms down, while shifting his own body to place his weight on the legs. it's not the most comfortable of positions to enjoy his prey, but he'll work hard for the sake of his Savior. ]
You should feel overjoyed. While I'll miss you, it's a blessing for me to know that my Lord will be the one feasting on you.
[ he removes the knife out from the abdomen and with the most gentleness possible, plunges it into yoshi's eye socket. ]
[There's another yelp as he's pinned, another groan as the knife is removed and blood rushes to spill out, but those have got nothing on the primal scream as the knife plunges into his eye socket.
The good news is, he's gone still for this brief moment from the shock as pain assaults his every sense.]
[ the wolf works meticulously to scrape the first eye out of the socket, practically scooping it out with the side of the knife. he holds it in his hand for a second, admiring it, before setting it aside on the snow.
but, unfortunately for yoshi, there's yet another eye that needs to be taken care of.
and, once again, the knife goes in, this time on the other eye. ]
[The screams only trail off when the knife leaves his body again, left behind by a rasping wheeze. He's in so much pain, surely, surely he'll lose consciousness, his remaining eye watering with tears that go cold almost immediately upon contact with the air-
The screams resume, echoing in the emptiness, unheard by any who could possibly help.]
[ it's a shame, the barghest thinks, that yoshi can't see him right now. as he works to separate the eye from the muscle, he has a small, pleased grin as the smell of blood invades his senses. oh how he wants to consume him--
ah, but he shouldn't. not before the Savior, no.
with a final slice of the knife, the eye is fully separated. ]
Thank you, Yoshi. [ he sounds gentle. thankful. ] Thank you so much for your sacrifice. The Lord is pleased.
[He doesn't even hear Flat's words, pain, pain overtaking all senses. Even when the eye is finally removed, all he knows is darkness, and it's not only the pain causing that. He no longer...
There's one last sound, a soft whimper dragged out by that very pain before the very last of his senses fade, brain too overloaded from sensation to hang on any longer.
Perhaps mercifully, he finally sinks into unconsciousness for a final time, the "ears" of his BitPhone digitizing and vanishing as they fail to sense sufficient brain activity.
[ the barghest--flat escardos--chokes out something between a laugh and a sob, each side clearly identifiable. it matters not, though.
the small dog, his Savior, walks over to the scene, sniffing the eyeballs that lay on the side, separated from the body. flat smiles, proud of what he has done. ]
My offering to you, my Lord and Savior.
[ and as the pup begins to chew and eat, first on the eyeballs, and then on the entrails that belong to the once living yoshi nanase, flat gets to work on making his work of art.
he plunges the knife down on nanashi's neck and, upon seeing the blood ooze out, he can't help but lick the side of the bloodied knife, relishing its taste. but he must continue working, setting up a scene worthy of his lord and, after some struggle, manages to detach the yoshi's head from the limp body.
the barghest lifts the head up at the bright moon-- and howls. ]
no subject
...Yeah! Sure, let's go!
[He wants to protect this world. That's what that dream told him. That's why he trained so hard.
He'll follow Flat wherever he leads. But if they're passing the couch on the way...
He'll carefully drop his key into the cushions as they go.]

it's empty. ]
There's no need to drop your key there, you know? You might forget about it and then get locked out.
no subject
[He's agreeable enough.]
But you're not planning to let me go back, are you?
[Neither of them are stupid. Yoshi may hate himself, may regard himself as nothing more than garbage, than scum on the sole of humanity's shoe--
But he's not stupid.
The screens remain up, and he types away at one idly even still.]
no subject
[ well, it's not like the excuse was gonna hold up that well in the first place. blue eyes glint evilly, but he continues to walk. ]
But don't take it badly. I chose you for a reason. I chose you because you're special.
no subject
[And Yoshi continues to follow. The typing has ceased.]
Don't know if I really believe it! I haven't changed at all. Even if people tell me to, I don't think I can.
That's all you can expect from garbage, I guess!

[This, he's curious about, watching the knife impassively. That's going to hurt, he's sure of it.]
Mm, I'm still not sure why you think I'm the best option, though! There's a lot of other talented people here.

Maybe this really is the best place for it.]
No way! Garbage like me should be the first to die for sure.
[The spirit has that part right, at least.]
I just wanted to apologize.
no subject
Apologize? What would you need to apologize for? This is all the Wolf God's doing. You should be ecstatic.
1/2
I already told the others I'd try to survive.
[His desire to live for his own sake is low. But if it's because others wish it...]
