Round 4 death flag mechanic
Round 4 is going to include something we have decided to call the 'death flag mechanic'. Basically, characters will have the chance to prevent murders from happening! Sounds fun, right? Well, it's actually a bit tricky, so here is a guide on how it will work.
This round we will be rolling the killer and victim on Sundays. They will have time to prepare their case as usual, but along with the usual trial preparations they will create three 'death flags'. These are three events that will happen during the week (any time from Monday to Thursday), and if the correct options are chosen, then the murder will be prevented.
For example, if the murder on Thursday night is to be committed with a kitchen knife, then one of the 'death flags' could be 'there must be a knife in the kitchen on Thursday night'. If the knives are removed from the kitchen during the week, then they are not available for using the murder, and the murder will be prevented!
As another example, the murder could be a result of two characters having an argument. If one character's close CR notices that the character is mad and takes steps to help them work through that anger, then the death flag of 'both characters are mad enough to get involved in a fight' will be prevented, and no death will happen.
As mentioned before, there will be three total 'death flags' each week. You only need to prevent one of the three flags to prevent the murder.
An important thing to note is that there will be no headers saying 'this is a death flag' during the mingle log! While some guidance will be offered, mostly in the form of "your character noticed this interesting thing when they happened to investigate the correct room", you must seek out ways to prevent the murder on your own.
