[What's this? The fog of the miasma has pulled back, revealing a path down to the basement. None of the living seem to notice it though, only those who are dead are aware of it.

Down in the basement is a large furnished room. It doesn't seem as dusty as the rest of the house, and it actually seems lived in? Or...un-lived in, technically. But the lighting here works and there's plenty to do. Even if the ghosts might not need it, there's several beanbag chairs (brought in by one of the many groups of teenagers who have disappeared into the house), a large couch, and even a jacuzzi. Because even if you're in eternal pain, you can relax a bit, right?

If the ghosts look up, they'll see that the ceiling appears to be made of spider-patterned stained glass. Which is weird, considering that it should be floorboards and such. But the stained glass allows them to look up into all parts of the house and easily spy on the living. What they hear can be hit or miss, especially if the living are whispering, but seeing what they're up to should be easy enough.

Well. Might as well make the most of this space, right?]

[Sho lets Date wander off by himself, following him silently and invisibly. Then he calls out;]

Hey! You.

[After the... incident, Date's had some time to cool off after ghost-strangling Hikage (which was definitely not as satisfying as he hoped), although his ever-present irritation is as prevalent as ever. Distracted by his own poor mood, he doesn't notice Sho stalking him silently, and while he doesn't jump or show any visible signs of it, there's definitely a flash of surprise and confusion coming from his end of the hivemind.]

You? What do you want?

[Sho bares inhumanly long fangs and attempts to corral Date against the wall by getting up in his business. His eyes are dead, but there's fury there. He places a hand on the wall next to the other man's head -- but it's not a hand. It's a paw, with wickedly sharp claws. He taps them against the wall, rhythmically, threateningly]

You and me need to have a chat.

[Date will lean back slightly from Sho getting up in his personal space, but he won't cower against the wall, making use of his full height to look down on the other man; if anything, he just seems more riled up by the aggressive display, although it's more general frustration and annoyance rather than Sho's pointed fury. With that said, there's still an undercurrent there--he's ready to defend himself at any time, if Sho gets a little too handsy here.]

Really now? And just what do we have to discuss?

[He doesn't really know enough about Giovanni to understand his relationship to Sho, oops!!]

[Sho brings his other claws to bear, and a long but two-dimensional tattoo tail thrashes behind him. He may be shorter, but he's not letting that stop him]

Gio. Why? Why him? And he better have been dead before you torched him, detective zero, or we're gonna have a problem. Do you have any idea how much it hurts to burn to death?!

[Sho is probably still winning when it comes to the Legitimately Angry Olympics here, but the questioning certainly isn't helping Date's mood. Either way, there's basically nothing in the way of empathy or understanding coming from his end, which probably doesn't help but this is fine.]

Of course I don't, did it look like I burned to death? [he's a solid proponent of #YouOnlyDieOnce here??] And maybe you would be better off waiting and asking him that before jumping to conclusions like an idiot!

[Sho slaps the wall with his other hand, right next to Date's ear, and he snarls again]

BECAUSE, YOU IDIOTIC ITERATION! You're the one who KILLED him!! I'm not going to ask him about his death!! Now tell me! Or you ARE gonna find out what it feels like to be torn limb from factoring limb!

Try it, and I'll show you some more fireworks. [As he spits out the last word like a curse, Sho might feel something that's cold, metal and hard pressing lightly against his side here.]

Besides, he's the one who interrupted me! If he'd just put his damn bat down and walked away, this little incident never would have happened.

Olympia's bomb was zetta more impressive than your bullets, detective zero, and that's nothing compared to being electrocuted. I've died twice. I'm not scared of you.

So, what DID happen? You thought you could keep Ango from killing everyone, so you picked an easy target?

Then maybe you should stop tossing around threats so we both don't waste our time here.

[His frown deepens more at the questions, though.]

You didn't hear a thing I said, did you? I said he interrupted me. Does that make it sound like I picked him?

[as irritating as the miasma is, as grating on the nerves, it does much for diffusing problems between the already dead. He can feel it coaxing him into complacency, and Sho just frowns, choosing to fold his furry arms over his chest]

How about we just start from the beginning, then. Keep to the order of operations. Clear up any miscalculations.

[There's a particularly petty part of him that's tempted to simply walk away here, but the reality of being part of a hivemind in an enclosed space is that he can't exactly hide his movements from Sho even if he wanted to. So while being off helps some, Date still finds himself feeling irate.

But not entirely uncooperative. He still huffs out an exasperated sigh before he starts.]

It's not a long story. We ran into each other near the kitchen and he pulled his bat out on me while I was making preparations. If we'd just passed without seeing each other, it wouldn't have been him.

[Sho looks away, shaking his head. So Gio's good heart was his undoing in the end after all. He had been worried about that.]

... Fine. Final question, for all the marbles. [he keeps his head down, eyes hidden by the brim of his hat] He was dead before you set him on fire... right?

[Well, this one was easy to answer.]

Yes. If he had survived having his torso blown apart, I would have been surprised. But I confirmed he was dead before I moved him over to the dressing room.

[Sho sighs in relief]

... The first time I died, I accidentally electrocuted myself in the subway. It absolutely blew. Burning up feels similar. Compared to that, having your torso blown out is a cake walk.

[...Was that pun intentional?

Probably completely the wrong thing to focus on but sometimes you get on tangents this way.]

I may have killed someone, but I'm not gonna torture them for no reason. The main reason I started the fire was to destroy evidence and to try to burn this place down to the ground.

[Which obviously didn't work out because thanks Ango.]

[It's Sho. Of course it was intentional. Either way, Sho visibly relaxes, even though he's still pretty ticked off. His arms blur into static and then back to plain human ones.]

Hehehe. Well, can't have the house burning down, now can we? .... actually, I wonder what would happen if we DID just let a fire go.

[TURNS OUT THEY FIND OUT LATER but hey]

Well... I'm sure Gio will have words for you as well. And he's the Vessel, so you're gonna have to do what he says. Them's the breaks, detective.

[Gosh, what a show off!! While Date doesn't quite relax per se, the gun at least vanishes from his hand in a burst of miasma. The irritation is still there, but what else is new.]

Probably the same as what would normally happen if you burned a place down.
