Rules
Be Respectful
We're all here to have a good time, and we want to keep a friendly atmosphere. Treat each other with respect and kindness. This means no harassment, no bullying, and no singling people out for mistreatment. We want this game to be a friendly and welcoming one for everyone, so reports of mistreatment will be taken seriously.
This includes things like ship-pushing and CR-bullying. Each player has the right to say 'no' to any kind of ship or CR that they do not want, and you need to respect that 'no' if you are given one. Because of previous incidents within the game, we will be taking this rule seriously. It's okay to be excited about CR and ships, but if someone says 'no' or otherwise indicates that they do not want to go forward with a certain plan, then you need to respect that.
Similarly, if you are the one saying 'no', then you need to be respectful and make that 'no' very clear. If you need that 'no' to come from a mod, then feel free to contact us and we will help. But if you are made uncomfortable by a situation, then you need to speak up. We can't do anything about a situation if we are not made aware of it. Please, come to us with any problems. We're here to help!
This rule includes your interactions with the mods too. At the end of the day, we're humans as well. Please be respectful to us when you're talking with us.
Stay Active
Our activity requirements are clearly stated in several places. Activity Check comments will go up on the AC post every Saturday at 12 pm EST. You will have until 12 pm EST on Sunday (so a full 24 hours) to comment with your AC. Extensions will only be given in extreme circumstances.
Besides AC, we also expect all living characters to be present at the majority of investigations and trials. We understand that sometimes real life can sometimes get in the way of RP, and if you are having trouble making AC or participating in trials then please contact us and we can work something out. But in general, you are expected to make AC and be present at the trial every week. Failure to do so will result in your character being removed from the game. Player presence at investigations and trials will be strictly enforced! If you make AC every week but are otherwise inactive, you may be removed from the game.
In addition to this, we highly encourage players to go 'above and beyond' what is required by AC. Murdergames tend to move quickly and involve a lot more tagging. While we only require 30 comments for weekly AC, staying moderately active and up-to-date on the plot within a murdergame can mean doing upwards of 100 tags each week. Your character should also be helping to move the game forward in some way (by participating in events, helping during a trial, investigating the setting to find clues, building CR, helping to solve problems, etc.). Not every tag has to be impactful to the game in some way, but at least some of what you do should be helping the game in order to really be 'active'.
Not only that, but this is not a game where you can be 'active' only tagging on weekends. You will need to make a sustained effort to tag both during weekdays and on weekends in order to be an active participant in this game. Please keep this in mind if you are interested in playing in this game!
No Spoilers
Over the course of the game, certain characters will become privy to certain bits of classified information. If you are given classified information, we expect you to keep that information secret until such time that it is to be revealed to everyone else. No sharing spoilers on plurk, discord, or any other OOC chat. We will be enforcing this rule strictly going forward. If you are caught sharing spoilers, you will be kicked out of the round and possibly banned from apping to future rounds. We are being serious here. Spoilers and Infomodding will get you kicked without previous warnings. Don't do it.
We mods will make it clear which bits of information are considered spoilers and which bits can be shared freely, but if you have any questions regarding this please contact us! We would rather clarify if information is classified or not if you're not sure.
IC =/= OOC
While conflict and strife can be fun to play out in-character, and there most definitely will be opportunities for negative CR within the game, please keep IC drama to IC. Conflicts should not spread to OOC. Similarly, please do not bring OOC drama into the game.
Also related to this point: this is a murdergame. There is a very high chance of your character dying. By apping into this game, you are accepting that your character could die at any moment. If your character does die, please be respectful and don't take it out on other players or the mods.
Content Warnings
Please warn for triggering content, especially for the following topics: graphic/gory violence, body horror, rape, incest, abuse (physical, mental, etc.), pedophilia, and suicide. Failure to warn for these topics will result in a warning, and multiple offenses may result in removal from the game.
For other sensitive topics, we trust you to use your best judgement on if it needs to be warned for. If you are asked to put in a warning for said comment, please be respectful and edit it in. Similarly, we ask that people requesting content warnings for other topics please be respectful when making that request.
Move NSFW to your Journal
If things start heading towards smut territory, then please move the thread to your journal with proper warnings. You can also just fade to black on the mingle posts. For example, if your characters start heading there, a character can drag the other off for some privacy for [ chainsaw noises ]. Implying that sex happened in a public thread is fine as well.
Check the FAQ first
As this game grows, more and more information is going to be found on the FAQ and info pages. If you have a question for us regarding rules, setting, or other game-related information like that, please check the FAQ or other appropriate game pages first! If your question isn't answered on any of those pages, then feel free to leave a comment and ask us.
Chat Conduct
The 'general chat' is the main chat for players to talk about happenings in the game. No NSFW content is allowed at any time. Triggering content (see the 'content warning' rule) is only allowed when it is pertinent to a specific investigation or trial, and must come with content warnings. At all other times, triggering content is not allowed. 'Deadland' and other round-specific game chats will also follow these same rules.
'Shitpost central' may contain NSFW content and triggering content, provided both are warned for prior to the content being posted.
Examples of content that breaks the rules: risque pictures, discussing a character's traumatic backstory (when it's not relevant to a case), discussing characters involved in NSFW situations, gory imagery.
Examples of content that does not break the rules: non-risque character images, discussing NSFW/triggering content as it relates to that week's case, discussions of characters dating/kissing, comedic violence.
Mods get final say on if content is allowed or not. If something doesn't technically break the rules but we tell you to stop posting it, then stop posting it.
Since we allow for characters under the age of 18, there is the possibility of content involving characters under the age of 18 appearing in any channel. As long as the content does not otherwise violate the rules of the chats, it will be allowed, even for underage characters.
By applying to this game, you accept the rules of the discord chat and will follow them.
Equal, but not the Same
This is very much a 'you get what you give' kind of game. As mods, we will try our best to make this game fun for everyone involved. We want to give everyone an equal opportunity for fun and getting involved in the plot and engaging with the game. However, we can't realistically give the exact same opportunity to every character within the game. Some of what you can do is limited by the CR your character has with both NPCs and other characters. The more active you are and the more you engage with the plot, setting, and NPCs, the more chances you will get to do cool stuff. This doesn't mean that you have to befriend the NPCs, or that you have to follow set expectations for how the plot will go. But you have to at least participate in the game in some manner, be it positively or negatively.
So while every character will get a chance to do something within the game, not every character is going to get exactly the same chance for exactly the same CR and game involvement. By apping into this game, you accept this rule.
Communicate With Us
If you have any problems with the game or players in the game, please come to us! We can only address problems we are aware of, so please feel free to contact us at any time.
That said, we ask that you contact us while logged in (either by making a private plurk to the mod plurk/the mods' personal plurks, or by PMing the mod journal). We will still read anonymous complaints, but more weight will be given to complaints that come from players within the game. If you do contact us, your identity will be kept private.
Additionally, any contact with mods regarding mod work will be made to both mods. You can message one of us to start off the conversation, but we will move the conversation to either a private plurk involving everyone, a discord chat involving everyone, or an email to the mod email. Please, if you're not sure if something warrants mod intervention or not, contact us to check. We are here for you. The sooner we know about a problem, the sooner we can do something about it.
Behavior Warnings
If you break any of the rules here, you will receive one warning. If you are caught breaking the rules a second time, you will be kicked from the round and banned from apping to future rounds.
If you do something that is not technically against the rules but is still very uncool and disrespectful, you will receive one warning. Do it again, and you will be kicked from the round and banned from apping to future rounds.
If a rule violation/action of any sort is particularly grievous, then we reserve the right to kick someone from the game without warning them first.
Please note that these warnings are cumulative. Warnings do not go away once a round is over. If you get a warning in round 2 and then do the same action in a future round, you will be kicked from the game.
The Boss Rule
Mods get the final say. We reserve the right to reject an application for reasons other than app quality. We also reserve the right to reject murder plans/death proposals. If at any time we tell you "No", we expect you to respect that 'no' and work with us to come up with something else. Generally we are open to discussion on anything involving this game and how to run it, and we are always open to crit and comments. But if we invoke 'the boss rule' then we expect you to accept that. No exceptions.
