THE BARGHEST

Makoto wakes up on Sunday night in a cold sweat, and goes to her bathroom. Once there, she washes her face, staring in the mirror...only to suddenly see something transparent, ghostly, and terrifying behind her. She turns around quickly, but it's too late -
...The Resort has a special role for you and your fellow Monsters. In the course of its proposed game, it's made clear to you that there is an Outsider in an area the Resort cannot physically reach, and it's causing them pain. As the Barghest, you see the Resort as your hunting ground - a place where prey is invited in to be killed and fed to the rats. But a prey that is able to dodge even the Resort itself is a prey worth taking over, not slaughtering...
OOC GAMEPLAY
- The Goal of the Barghest is to possess The Outsider.
- As the Mafia in the IC game, the Resort expects the Barghest or one of the other Mafia to do at least one murder a week, beyond the break week we'll schedule around the holidays.
- During the Killing Night, the Barghest may use its role and set itself to counter any attempt to murder itself or one of the other Mafia. Only one person may be protected in this way, and use of the role means that the Barghest cannot murder that night, though they may assist in a kill.
- Any murder the Barghest does must be brutal and animalistic. What this means is that there must be some trace that they did the murder - Throats or torsos ripped open, heads being decapitated, body parts thrown around, bite marks - anything that seems sufficiently brutal to indicate the Barghest killed someone.
- The method of execution that can kill the Barghest is Electrocution. The Barghest can also be exorcised via any evil spirit banishing method or ritual. This removes the Barghest from play but saves the Host.
- At the beginning, only the Monsters will know The Outsider exists, and that the Resort wants them gone.
- The Barghest wins if they take the Outsider as a Host, and survive the ic mafia game.
IC GAMEPLAY
The Barghest is a ghost that haunts the hotel, and possesses people. During the possession, the Host believes they are in willing service to the Barghest as it's vessel and allows it to speak through them. The possession allows the Host to display otherworldly strength, as well as become more wolflike and gain fangs and claws when killing for the Barghest. However, they do not physically change - it's a mental illusion, which the Barghest projects onto the Host and their victim, and kills via it's own ghostly means.
What this means in an IC sense is that a character that has become the Barghest becomes totally, utterly devoted to the spirit - think like cultishly obsessed. On the outside, they're able to be the same towards people, but inwardly they're constantly thinking about how to better serve their God. The thing a Barghest player should keep in mind is 'So what if my character was a secret Wolf Cultist?'
The Barghest isn't a big fan of religions or holy symbols - due to the possession by an evil spirit, they attempt to stay away from places of worship or religious tools, even if they were originally religious. The Barghest also cannot cross moving water - which means pools are clearly a no-go to go in, though they can walk around it with no problems.
The longer the Barghest possesses their Host, the more wolf-like or animal-like behavior will come to the surface, unable to be hidden. These include howling, biting things, growling - anything you can think of that a wild wolf or animal would do, increasing in severity or occurrence as time goes on. A host for a week would be able to keep up the illusion, but by week three would start to show some clear signs of possession...
The Barghest is able to go Invisible at any time, but while it's active, any movement will be accompanied by the sound of rattling chains.
The Barghest is interested in The Outsider because they have the intelligence and cunning to avoid the Resort for so long, making them a desired Host. As the cultist to the Barghest, the Host will be sad that their god wants a new vessel, but ultimately understanding and willing to do what they can so that the Barghest gets what they want. If the Barghest survives to find The Outsider, they can take them over, though they may have to fight their fellow Monsters for him - if they all survive...

As quickly, her clothes switch back to the pajamas she'd just been wearing, and... no? No, no no...
Yes?]
Like... family...
[she pauses, and closes her eyes.
and then... a small smile appears on her face.]
You would never hurt me. I'm sorry for fighting.

[The barghest sinks into her all the way, and she feels....complete. In the utter bliss of knowing your God is near, and loves you. A phantom tongue laps at her cheek, warm and gentle.]
I know that sometimes, puppies do things they don't mean. But it's alright, Makoto. I am here for you, and we will be together through this.
There's someone we have to find, my dearest. Someone who causes harm to this place, our den and hunting ground. With you, I know we will be able to find The Outsider.

[her red eyes flash in delight]
But, let me investigate more, o goddess. I'll get to the bottom of this problem, and eliminate all threats.
