THE DOPPELGANGER

Cinque wakes up on Sunday night in a cold sweat, somehow unable to move. Squinting through the gloom, she sees...herself, standing next to the bed and staring down at her. It stares for only a few moments before crashing down on Cinque in a blobby mess, covering her mouth and seeping into her pores, until...
...The Resort has a special role for you and your fellow Monsters. In the course of its proposed game, it's made clear to you that there is an Outsider in an area the Resort cannot physically reach, and it's causing them pain. As the Doppelganger, you see the Resort as your home - a place that took you in, even when you didn't have a Host to mirror. And since it was your home for so long, and has treated you so kindly...you want to make sure it's healthy and content, at any cost. And at the same time, maybe you can finally fulfill your greatest wish...
OOC GAMEPLAY
- The Goal of the Doppelganger is to remove the Outsider from the Resort.
- As the Mafia in the IC game, the Resort expects the Doppelganger or one of the other Mafia to do at least one murder a week, beyond the break week we'll schedule around the holidays.
- The Doppelganger may use its role and change into another player. If the Seeker checks that player when the Doppelganger uses its role, whatever player it's chosen to disguise itself as will read as Mafia to the Seeker. The Doppelganger may kill or assist in kills after using its role.
- The Doppelganger has no special way it must kill, beyond not having to leave evidence behind to point to it's Host. The Doppelganger can shapeshift into other players during murders, so it's a good idea for a Doppelganger player to try to set up someone as a scapegoat.
- The method of execution that can kill the Doppelganger is the Iron Maiden, or any death that prohibits the Doppelganger from abandoning the Host. Since the Doppelganger is a shapeshifter, it can shift away from danger, except when it is trapped.
- At the beginning, only the Monsters will know The Outsider exists, and that the Resort wants them gone.
- The Doppelganger wins if they remove The Outsider from the Resort, survive the ic mafia game, and escape the Resort.
IC GAMEPLAY
The Doppelganger is unlike the other monsters in that it has no real desire to chase down or hunt prey. The Doppelganger merely wants to truly become someone in every aspect - their mirror image, where they become a single being. The Doppelganger chooses its Host by appearing in their form next to their bedside, and then merging themselves with their Host's body. The Doppelganger merges so completely with the Host body that the Host becomes capable of shapeshifting and taking on any form, as well as being able to shapeshift weaponry or animal parts from their body.
What this means in an IC sense is that a character that has become the Doppelganger will actually know there is another consciousness inside of them fighting for control and manipulating them - at least, at first. As time goes on (Aka after three weeks), the Doppelganger's consciousness and the Host's become as one - eventually to the point that they are still the same character, but they are also aware they are the Doppelganger at the same time, with the abilities the Doppelganger grants. It stops becoming a fight to control the body, and more that they are finally together as one, the real self and the mirror self lines being so blurred it's hard to tell which is which. On the outside, the host will act as they normally would, albiet knowing there's another consciousness trying to control them...at least at first, until the merging begins.
The Doppelganger has nothing it avoids, beyond what the character normally would. The Doppelganger as a consciousness is very amoral (it has no qualms with killing others, will do whatever it needs to survive), but at the same time it's not cruel or vicious, either. It sees the killing as simply something that needs to be done to get the Outsider out, and while it's sad, it's disconnected from the suffering of the players, much like how someone doesn't tend to feel much if they accidentally or purposefully crush an insect. However, that amoral output may be changed by the personality of the Host as the Doppelganger becomes more and more like them. Due to this, even in the beginning stages of the merging, the Host will feel strongly compelled not to tell anyone about the extra consciousness they're struggling with.
The Doppelganger has only a few tics or flaws that can be pointed out - it unconsciously copies the physical or verbal tics of the people around it. For example, if a character tugs on their hair or ends sentences with a 'yo', if the doppelganger hears or sees that, it will copy it. This only relates to when the Doppelganger is close enough to someone to hear or see that, however - when left on it's own, the Doppelganger will revert to the Host's tics and behaviors.
The Doppelganger is interested in The Outsider due to seeing the Resort as a place that actually truly accepted them - and thus wants to be able to help them before leaving. The Doppelganger has no interest in The Outsider beyond making them stop hurting the Resort, and doesn't care if The Outsider lives or dies. In the case that The Outsider is found while the other monsters are still alive, the Doppelganger will let them do what they want to The Outsider with little issue. Either way, it removes the pain the Resort was going through, and lets the Doppelganger escape outside with a Host, to feel truly complete...
