[What's this? The fog of the miasma has pulled back, revealing a path down to the basement. None of the living seem to notice it though, only those who are dead are aware of it.

Down in the basement is a large furnished room. It doesn't seem as dusty as the rest of the house, and it actually seems lived in? Or...un-lived in, technically. But the lighting here works and there's plenty to do. Even if the ghosts might not need it, there's several beanbag chairs (brought in by one of the many groups of teenagers who have disappeared into the house), a large couch, and even a jacuzzi. Because even if you're in eternal pain, you can relax a bit, right?

If the ghosts look up, they'll see that the ceiling appears to be made of spider-patterned stained glass. Which is weird, considering that it should be floorboards and such. But the stained glass allows them to look up into all parts of the house and easily spy on the living. What they hear can be hit or miss, especially if the living are whispering, but seeing what they're up to should be easy enough.

Well. Might as well make the most of this space, right?

What is Miasma?

Miasma is a Black Fog that can be generated by ghosts and parts of the house. Ghosts will have an Area of Effect that surrounds them, but quickly dissipate once the ghost has left - while fog generated by the house will be in grouped up clouds that hang in the air, but are more permanent.

What does Miasma do?

Upon walking into it, The living will experience different effects. Mostly, the fog will amplify negative thoughts and emotions, with the effect being greater the longer or more often they are exposed to it. Prolonged exposure (such as merely living in the house over time) will make it much more difficult to shake off the feelings, though it can be individually resisted.

There is also the potential for the living to experience traumatic memories of their past upon contact, where they will experience as if they're there once more. Of course, in real time, this experience only takes seconds.

There will be a note per week on the mingle post about the level of miasma exposure, but by the end of the experience, characters will be genuinely struggling against the effects due to long term exposure.

As an aside, Miasma does not force them to do horrible things, or will they ever act possessed due to it. It is merely meant to make arguments and fights and other such things easier to occur, and bring suffering to the living trapped there.

All of the emotions they feel are their own, if just merely brought to the surface and intensified.

LEVEL GUIDELINE

LEVEL 1: Minor irritation, and fights about little things are easier. Negative emotion in general is amplified only a little bit, and there are no other negative effects. Spells or rituals to clear them of magic will make them feel much better for a long period of time (1 day), though it will eventually fade.

LEVEL 2: Much quicker to the extremes of negative emotion, though it's still easily handled. It's more at the level of 'having a bad day' as opposed to the 'having minor bad moments' of level 1. At this level, healing magic begins to have less of an effect - an extremely strong spell would go to a moderately powerful one, and a moderately powerful one to a lower level one, and a low level one being the equivalent of being able to heal minor cuts and scrapes. Spells or rituals to clear them of magic will make them feel better (half a day), but for a shorter period of time.

LEVEL 3: Negative Emotion is constantly coming to the forefront - it can be pushed through, but it's very difficult - and visions of past trauma will intrusively flash up at times. Consider it like having 'A bad week,' with all the temper issues and feelings that come with that. Those with divine influence will begin to suffer along with everyone else at this point, as well. Magic and faith based spells will take another major hit, with only the most powerful spell going to a low level. Spells or rituals to clear them of magic will make them feel better, but for a shorter period of time, (half a day) and spells in general may begin to exhibit 'miasma-like' side effects.

LEVEL 4: The 'Had a bad month' equivalent. Characters Begin to feel overrun by their negative emotions, though how they manifest is entirely up to the character themselves. There are breaks of feeling 'normal', but these breaks tend to only last a day or two at the longest. Magic and faith based spells will be at the lowest level possible, and all magic, regardless of what it is, will always induce a Miasma-like effect. Spells or rituals to clear them of magic will make them feel better, but for a even smaller period of time (around 1-2 hours). When under intense negative emotion or lashing out at other people, Their irises will turn dark purple, but change back when they're back to a 'baseline'.

LEVEL 5: Near the point of no return. Characters at 5 behave erratically, and may attempt to hurt others while seriously affected by their own overwhelming negative emotions. While in this state, the negative emotions are constant - with barely any downtime to rest. Characters in this state cannot be calmed down, and attempts to cure them with magic will only be effective for a brief period of time (5 minutes, maximum) before they snap back to their previous state. Their irises will be dark purple at all times, and may sometimes leak a black, thick, tar-like liquid from their eyes. Any magic they attempt to do will also be akin to a direct hit of miasma along with the normal 'effects' of it, sans healing or purifying spells which will refuse to work in general.

Round 5 AC

foundationmods: (Default)
Activity checks are due each Sunday by noon EST.

Activity will consist of two components: mingle AC and trial AC.

You need 20 comments total from a minimum of two threads to make mingle AC. These threads can come from the weekly mingle posts, any party posts, or post-trial posts. Threads for mingle AC cannot come from investigations, trials, or PCs. Threads for AC must come from the week in question, so activity for Week 2 must be in posts from Week 2. Threads must be with at least two different characters.

IMPORTANT NEW AC NOTE: AC is tracked from trial-to-trial. So the week 1 after-party post will actually count for week 2 AC.

You will also need 10 comments total from the trial to make trial AC. These comments can come from anywhere within the trial, and do not have to be in long comment threads. You can even link to each individual comment if need be.

You must make both mingle AC and trial AC to stay in the game! Between mingle and trial AC, you need to make a minimum of 30 comments total each week.

Dead characters only need to check in! Just post a comment under the appropriate week to check in.

Please fill out the form below and post it under the appropriate week:

Reserves are currently closed! They will close when they are filled, and your reserve will be good until apps close.

Reserves are mandatory to apply to play in the game. We will close reserves early if we hit our maximum of 25 reserves, though people may still reserve in the case of a reserve dropping. We will run the game with a minimum of 15 characters, or our maximum of 25.

There is a one character maximum reserve limit, although proxy reserves are allowed. Character restrictions and other questions can be found on our FAQ.

If you proxy reserve, the person being reserved must comment to the proxy reserve subheader verifying the proxy within 12 hours. If you fail to comment, the proxy reserve will be considered void. You can only proxy reserve for one person, maximum.

If you get a reserve in after the 25 reserves are filled but before we officially close reserves, you will be put on a 'wait list'. If anyone from the 25 reserves cannot apply, or if we reject an application, then we will go to the wait list first to fill those spots. If you are on the wait list and do not make it into round 5, then you will get 'first dibs' at a spot in a future round. This only applies if there are no available spots in the game for you to apply in! If you are waitlisted but a spot opens up, then your 'waitlist' spot is used up there. If you choose not to apply at that point, you will lose your 'waitlist' spot.

You are free to switch the character you reserve at any time, up until you submit an app or apps close.

NOTE: All characters in this game will have powers. If your character does not have a power in canon, they will be assigned one. If your character has no canon powers and needs to be assigned one, please answer 'yes' to the related question in the reserve code.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to hit up [plurk.com profile] eskiwen / [plurk.com profile] husbando / [plurk.com profile] panpirate or send a PM to this account.

Thank you very much for your interest in the game, and good luck!

Red text means a cast limit has been reached!

A * means the reserve is a proxy reserve and needs to be confirmed.

This is where you can post anything your character says in the confessions camera room. The room is soundproof, and nobody on-site will be able to see or hear anything they say in there. Everyone outside of the site will see what is said, though.

We're keeping this post unlocked so everyone can see, since previous round characters will be able to see anything said here. Just remember that stuff mentioned in here won't be known to characters participating in the round unless the character tells someone about it outside of the confession room.
